Fiat 500
It’s the retro hatch that brings a smile to the face of just about everyone, but the Fiat 500 and 500C are cut-price units that are not only small in stature, but big in terms of impact. Sitting very much in a niche territory of its own making, the 500 and 500C are even smaller than the likes of the Mini Cooper and Kia Picanto, and in some ways, that’s what makes them such exciting prospects. The MY21 iterations include a refreshed flagship variant in the Dolcevita, which has a distinctive flair to its funky design. New car buyers eyeing a hatch with an attitude won’t have to search far, because the Fiat 500 and 500C are lively units that are a joy to push around. Their lightweight nature makes them nimble, responsive and light to steer, while the naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is decisive, even if it only offers 51kW and 102Nm on paper. You have the choice of a five-speed manual or dualogic semi-auto gearbox, with both running at a frugal consumption rating of less than 4.9L/100km. For a car this small, there is also a surprising level of space in the boot, while the convertible model opens up the uniquely quirky cabin for a greater sense of spaciousness. Complemented by a three-year, 150,000km warranty, and a solid features list - minus active safety unfortunately - this pint-sized range makes for a spellbinding experience.

The 2016 Fiat 500 is hands down the best example of modern retro in the automotive world. The Volkswagen Beetle flopped and the Mini has grown too big.

Fiat 500 Pop and Lounge / Fiat 500C Lounge Local Launch Review Melbourne, Victoria Series Four of the Fiat 500 has arrived in Australia. Priced from $18,000 (plus on road costs) for the base 1.2-litre Pop manual model, there’s no doubt that the refreshed model has been improved. But there’s a notable list of equipment omissions and aged drivelines underneath...

Fiat might’ve launched its baby hatch over 10 years ago, but thanks to its award-winning design, the 500 looks like it hasn’t aged a day. It’s a gorgeous, radiant looking thing – especially in ‘Sicilia Orange’ - but can it still cut the mustard when taken two hours north of Sydney to the hipster-dominated suburbs of Newcastle? Because despite being a small c...

To me, the little rocket screams character the moment you look at it. Weaving through the beautiful time-worn buildings of Europe, it gains even more character than if I were driving it back home. Whoever penned the original 500's shape was a real artist and the modern designers did well with the recreation. However, like with the Mini, I wish they weren't s...

There’s a significant overlap to the core premise of traditional city cars and forward-thinking electric vehicles (EVs), so – aside from potential packaging issues – it seems to make the most sense, in regard to current levels of battery technology, for manufacturers to turn their urban tearaways into EVs. And that’s precisely what Fiat has done with its all...

Fiat’s almost unbearably cute and unfeasibly small 500 has a received a reboot rather than a facelift but has copped a $2000 price rise, making it even more money for something small but hugely stylish. WHAT IS IT?A posh Italian handbag on wheels, or the small car you’d definitely be buying if you lived in Italy, where they sell hugely well. The Fiat 500 is...
