The Citroen DS5 is a compact executive hatchback, which was designed, developed and manufactured by the French auto-maker before being imported into Australia. The model was launched in Europe all the way back in November 201, representing the third model in the premium DS sub-brand. Today it is no longer being offered to local new car buyers, and you won't find too many of these premium models about as they were up against stiff competition back in the day, which meant they never sold in great volume
The DS5 was wrapped up as part of Citroen Australia's decision to focus on some of its core models at the time. As a result, model year 2017 is the last time you might spot a DS5. More broadly, the DS brand, which became an offshoot, continued to sell the DS5 hatchback until it also pulled up stumps on the premium hatchback. The sub-brand was facing a tough time with sales shrinking across the globe, so a revamped vehicle line-up meant curtains for the DS5.
DS is part of the French car manufacturer Citroen's stables. It launched three premium models under the DS banner back in 2009, and then from there, decided to spin out the DS badge into its own separate sub-brand. For all intents and purposes, you can effectively say they are the same maker, but in reality, the two brands have a different focus and DS has been pitched as the luxury tag for Citroen, in much the same way Lexus is for Toyota.
