It’s been long in the making but the 2019 BMW z4 has just been released, featuring an all new line-up and enhanced dynamics. For this first time, this third generation iteration features a new RWD platform that has been co-manufactured with Toyota, who will offer their own version of the car under the Supra badge. That sees the 28i and 35is versions retired, albeit their forceful display still remains an enticing proposition, especially if discounts emerge. The iconic roadster has a sleek and modern look, with a recut front and rear facade tying in well with sharp drawing lines along each side and the retractable soft top. Compared with the last generation z4, this one is longer albeit has a shorter wheelbase. Technology, including AEB and forward-collision warning, features prominently at the centre of the cabin’s presentation, with the completely new M40i variant sporting a digital instrument pack. Each turbo engine, be it the 3L V6 or 2L 4-cylinder variants in the 20i and 30i, feels pure and potent in partnership with the eight-speed gearbox. At the press of the pedal you’re off in no time with zero lag, and despite the shorter wheelbase and light frame, you’re never lacking grip and handling.
