Like a fine wine that gets better with age, this year’s version, the first among a new fourth generation range, goes deeper than all its predecessors. Look no further than the plethora of equipment drivers have effectively been upgraded to at little-to-no extra cost, but also, the marked engine upgrades across the line-up. And if it is power you’re chasing, the range-topping M50d has a 3L quad-turbo motor set to offer just shy of 300kW. Even the base model X5 includes automatic park assistance, adaptive headlights, sports seats, gesture control functions, keyless operation, and motoring aids. In just about every aspect the 2019 version is bigger than its former peers, which has facilitated extra space for first and second row passengers. Don’t forget though, some of the variants can accommodate up to seven people, so versatility is the key word here. But, that’s easy to forget when face-to-face with one of the most deluxe and plush cabins found in any car yet alone an SUV. Sleek edges along the dash, sophisticated technology embedded front and centre, supple leather - there is a lot to love here.
