It is BMW’s newest and most limited edition option, but the M850i xDrive is a centrepiece of the company’s M8 models. With a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 under the hood offering 390kW and 750Nm, this is no gentle mover, rather a powerhouse. The eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive setup are synthesised meticulously for clean and faultless dynamics. Yet it is the ostentatious design, inside the cabin, and externally in either a coupe or convertible format, which radiates ambition and confidence. Features span active park assistance, auto stop-start, dynamic dampers, electronic differential lock, forward collision warning, hill-start assistance, lane-keep assistance, night vision, pedestrian detection, and a whole lot more. At this end of the market you might have come to expect those, but BMW’s technology is ahead of the game. Elsewhere, ride comfort is simply superb. You’ll appreciate the adaptive variable double wishbone suspension, as well as an airy cabin feel, supportive upholstered seating and noise isolation - though not too much that you won’t hear the gurgle of that sports exhaust. Spare no time if you have your eyes set on a luxury performance coupe or convertible, the M850i will fly out the door before you even realise it.

Is the BMW M8 the fastest BMW?

The BMW M8 Competition, in coupe body, is the most powerful production car built by the German auto-maker. At the same time, it's also effectively the fastest car in the company's line-up, with a blistering speed on the road. It is slightly ahead of the M5 when comparing the general breadth of the variants across the two models, however, the special-edition and highly-limited M5 CS is technically the fastest of any individual BMW vehicle, but you might have trouble finding it.
Is the BMW M8 a supercar?

On paper, the BMW M8 can match it with some of the top supercars that you'll find from the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. However, the style and performance of the M8 is more akin to a GT car, which is in no small part due to the fact that this front-engine sports car was developed from a GT car, and doesn't quite have the same sort of buzz that some of its more iconic peers might boast, even if technically they stack up quite similarly in terms of specs. Don't let that deter you, however, this unit is effectively a supercar, just without quite the same recognition.
