BMW’s littlest M coupe, the M2 has enjoyed a stellar rise since its introduction a few years ago, and in 2021, the line-up is a distinctly different look than the outgoing model. The Competition variant now serves as the entry-level model in the range, while the CS takes pole position as the flagship variant. The MY21 series also delivers a hefty upgrade in terms of power, with the top-spec CS model now capable of delivering 331kW and 550Nm of torque thanks to a twin-turbo 3.0-litre set-up. The availability of six-speed manual is also sure to delight the motoring purists, but of course the seven-speed dual-clutch auto is precise and nimble when it comes to gear changes. Sporty looks are sure to be your first impression of the M2, which looks stunning from a number of angles. There is plenty of space up front in the M2, and although the rear is a little more constrained, this coupe series really is targeting young urban professionals. Whereas the standard equipment found in the Competition is extensive, the CS adds more sporty touches and flair, plus global production of the variant is limited to just 2200 units. For an authentically sporty driving experience, the M2 is richly rewarding, with engines that come to life, and sublime road-handling qualities. While the absence of AEB, blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist might deter some, the M2 has the performance enthusiast in mind.

BMW Australia drew a big response to the impending arrival of the M2 CS when pricing was announced back in February, with the first small batch snapped up in no time and another shipment soon dispatched. All up, Australia’s total 84-unit allocation has now landed here, and while most have been sold, BMW has confirmed that a handful are still available in dea...

When BMW’s M2 first landed on Australian shores in 2016, one of the biggest criticisms levelled at it was a lack of grunt, which must have hurt its feelings. With 272kW and 465Nm from the 3.0-litre single-turbo ‘N55’ six-cylinder engine, it was hardly tame, but the question it raised was whether it was special enough to be christened a full-fat M car? And th...

The concept is simple: take the already seriously quick BMW M2 Competition high-performance coupe, give its engine a power-up, send the body and chassis to bootcamp, and tweak the styling to advertise the heightened aggression within. What you now have is a higher-performance coupe that will accelerate from 0-100km/h 0.2sec quicker, go around corners faster,...

When the BMW M2 came out in 2016, it was the best driver’s car across the entire BMW range. Now there’s a new more powerful version called the 2021 BMW M2 CS – and it’s even better. Our track-only opportunity included both the manual and dual-clutch automatic. Yep, a manual transmission is offered as standard on the CS. That’s a big tick for those who value...

Imagine if there was a car-making device that allowed you to input a request and have it spit out a corresponding machine. Were you to plug in “ultimate rear-drive sports coupe” then the result might very well be the BMW M2 CS.Take BMW’s smallest rear-drive coupe, stuff it with hitherto unheard of levels of power, upgrade most of the mechanicals to cope then...
