Find out the BMW iX 2021 price today!
As the first purpose-built electric vehicle produced by BMW since the i3 back in 2013, the iX is a major development for the German luxury auto-maker. This model is also the fourth BMW i sub-brand to be released by the company, building upon a short but ultimately successful history of EV development. The iX name was picked by BMW to illustrate its rank as the flagship electric vehicle in the i series line-up.
The BMW iX was based on the iNext concept car that was showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. Broadly speaking, it is similar to the X5 in terms of size, however, the two models are still vastly different and use a completely separate platform. The iX is based on a unique aluminum space-frame platform, and it also boasts an extra inch of wheelbase compared with the X5. Both come with two rows of seating, and are marketed as dynamic, sports-inspired SUVs.
Sadly, the BMW iX is equipped for five occupants, so if you have your eyes set on a bigger family car, you might have to look elsewhere. One upside is that the angle of the rear seatbacks can be adjusted. If a seven-seat electric SUV is on your wishlist, check out the Tesla Model X. On the other hand, if you are happy to look past EV functionality, the BMW X7 is a highly-regarded seven-seat SUV that is sure to be big enough for the whole family.
