BMW i3
While a new lease on life has been given to the BMW i3 overseas, the MY21 iteration is the last chance that Australian motorists have to buy this snazzy zero-emissions hatchback down under. That’s because the iX3 and iX SUVs, as well as the i4 sedan, take up the place in BMW’s electric line-up. Nonetheless, the i3 is a great little car for those that want to dip their toes into the next-gen format. It is backed by an aluminium and carbon-fibre skateboard platform, while the electric motor offers 135kW of power and 270Nm of torque via the rear-wheels. A 42.2kWh lithium-ion battery runs the show, although range is a little on the lighter side at 260km. From standstill, the BMW i3 can reach 100km/h in just 6.9 seconds, with the hatchback’s top speed clocking in at 160km/h. The design of the i3 is something quite special in its own right, and while it might be polarising, it certainly is unique and offers up a hearty dose of personality. This unit will appeal to those eyeing a bold statement car that does its bit to help the environment.

The BMW i3 range hasn’t turned the world of motoring on its head in quite the way its futuristic looks might suggest. It is, however, a pivotal part of the foundation of what an electrified future might look like. Since first going on sale in Australia at the end of 2014, the BMW i3 has almost doubled its potential driving range. In the case of the 2019 i3,...

A mid-life update to BMW's i3 electric green-car sees changes to styling and technology as well as charging improvements to the German manufacturer's pioneering EV. In pure electric form (a 94Ah battery), a 200km claimed driving range remains but opt for the range extender (REX) variant of the i3 that benefits from the addition of a petrol engine and your po...

For a compact, four-seat hatch the BMW i3s is all the money at $70,900, before on-road costs. Close to $20K more than even the top-spec ‘Premium’ version of Hyundai’s Ioniq electric hatch ($52,490), and even further away from Renault’s cute little Zoe ($49,490). But a carbon monocoque body and high-tech powertrain don’t come cheap, and that’s where BMW’s ‘i’...

The BMW i3 has always been a bit of an oddball. Now in post-facelift (or LCI) guise, the likeable electric runabout has been given a makeover. With a wider track, bigger wheels and lower suspension – not to mention its red-and-black paint – it still turns heads. Even after a facelift, there are a few questions still hanging over its head, mostly in the form...

TIMING is everything. Back in 2014, the brilliant i3 60Ah was the first EV to scoop COTY, bringing enigmatic and audacious design, packaging and engineering, while still encapsulating BMW dynamic appeal. Perhaps more so than many of its stablemates. Created as a premium urban runabout, that early version’s circa-160km range was par for the course given its 2...
