Although a highly-acclaimed vehicle, the BMW 6 Series was phased out from the market to make way for the 8 Series. Both vehicles offer a superb sense of opulence and amenity, which is only to be expected in this segment of the market. If you have your heart set on a 6 Series, your best bet might be the second-hand market, although don't expect this niche gem to feature all that regularly given its rarity across the local market down under.
Globally, the BMW 6 Series was first produced from 1976 to 1989, before a second production run took place beginning in 2003 until the series was retired in the last couple years. This luxury line-up of coupes and convertibles enjoyed a more modest lifespan in Australia, with the 6 Series only largely pushed since 2017. Despite its short time on the market, and relatively low sales, the appeal of this car is hard to look past, and it certainly paved the way for the outstanding 8 Series that has followed.
It's all relative in terms of what may be cheap, however, some older versions of the 6 Series with higher kilometres certainly have an appealing price-tag in the second-hand market. This comes down to the mentality of buyers in the marketplace, who are often unprepared to pay what might be an excessive amount for a car with higher maintenance costs, as BMW cars are known for. In addition, older models or those with a high odometer reading may also give rise to some concerns about reliability, even though this is a well-built and dependable vehicle, because things can go wrong as with any other car.
