In late 2019, Audi launched its second-generation A1, however, it also coincided with the company's decision not to release an S version of the compact unit. The S1 wasn't particularly in high demand, prompting the company to axe the model. At the same time, Audi has maintained that the S and RS badges are associated with Quattro all-wheel-drive vehicles, and this is something that isn't quite practical when implemented within the platform associated with the A1, not to mention the high development costs of doing so. Maybe things will change in the future.
You can no longer buy a new Audi S1 as the car was discontinued several years ago. Rolled out in 2014, the S1 made a long-awaited comeback as the flagship model in the compact A1 model line. Setting the benchmark for performance in their class, the S1 and S1 Sportback were inspired by the racing pedigree and legendary reputation of the S1 from the 1980s, a period during which this model was on top of the world as a rally car in the World Rally Championship. Sadly, the resurrection didn't last long, and the model was retired just a few years later.
