Find out the Audi R8 2018 price today!
The Audi R8 is an ultra upmarket car that as you might expect, carries a significant price-tag with it. The opening price across the R8 range is just shy of $300,000, courtesy of the Coupe option. Almost in another league, however, is the Spyder Performance Quattro, which has a Suggested Retail Price of $416,500. Both units are powered by a V10, with on-road costs such as stamp duty, dealer delivery and luxury car tax excluded from these prices.
While the term supercar might be used somewhat loosely in this day and age, the Audi R8 is a throwback to one of the original supercars. A rarity among a dying breed, what with a growing number of auto-makers now relying upon turbochargers instead of naturally-aspirated engines. Powered by a thunderous V10 engine, the R8 is lightning quick, yet it is still rather effortless to drive. Put this head to head against just about any other production car on the market and let the results speak for themselves.
Sadly, curtains have been drawn on the Audi R8 supercar, with the German auto manufacturer announcing that it would no longer be produced for the Australian new car market. The company's hands were tied given its engine plant in Hungary no longer produces the V10 engine used in the cars sold across Australia. Instead, it will prioritise engine production for Audi R8s sold across Europe, which means it is a sad end for the R8 in Australia, but business as usual in overseas markets.
It's the first-ever rear-wheel-drive Audi, but is a departure from quattro a good thing? Paul Maric drives the new Audi R8 RWS to find out.
View ReviewStripping a vehicle back to its most pure form, adding some badging and calling it a special-edition is hardly news in the performance car landscape. Just as Porsche has done with its 911 R (among others), Ferrari with its new 488 Pista and Lamborghini with its Huracan LP580-2, the practice has become a highly lucrative and marketable one for manufacturers....
View ReviewA rear-wheel-drive performance car from Audi? Unheard of. It would be like Tony Abbott officiating a same-sex marriage. Or Richard Dawkins suddenly finding God. It goes against everything we've come to know about the Quattro brand from Ingolstadt. And yet there is no denying the massively obnoxious sideways drift currently taking place on Phillip Island's Ho...
View ReviewThe first ever rear-drive production Audi was never going to be something average – you could bet your life on it. The most obvious visual feature of the 2018 Audi R8 RWS, though, is that it doesn’t look any different to the AWD Audi R8. Whether that’s a good or bad thing can be debated for hours, but the most affordable R8 doesn’t look any cheaper than the...
View ReviewThe monotony of Melbourne’s freeways is now behind us and the road ahead turns twisty as it ducks, dives and dips its way into the lush, green heartland of Victoria’s South Gippsland region. A press of the ‘Drive Select’ activates Dynamic mode, the R8 RWS’s seven-speed dual-clutch ’box immediately dropping a couple of cogs in response and the V10 engine note...
