Weekly Dealer Car Enquiries – Sunday October 4

In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.

As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.

Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.

Total new car enquiries

In the week ending Sunday, October 4, a grand total of 1037 dealer connections took place through our platform. The 45 additional enquiries made represented the second consecutive week where there was encouraging growth across our community, up 4.5%, following a 4.6% rise the week prior.

Although the government’s job support packages have now been wound back, consumer confidence was on the increase for the fourth week in a row last week. It comes as border restrictions begin to ease in various parts of the country – spurring on hopes of interstate and regional tourism – and Melbourne begins to quash the second wave of COVID cases across the city.

New car interest by brand

While most brands recorded a comparable level of new car buying interest as the week prior, there was one manufacturer that bucked the trend and notched up a new record.

The number of inbound enquiries regarding Isuzu vehicles increased by 33, equivalent to a 75% week-on-week increase. The brand has been steadily gaining traction among our community in recent weeks, however, this number was an all-time high for the brand via the PriceMyCar platform. The result was also enough to see it land inside the top five car companies as measured by buying interest, another first.

Elsewhere, Mitsubishi and Honda effectively exchanged places, with the former seeing a tick-up in terms of activity, while the latter saw fewer request for quotes this week.
