As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.

Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.

Total new car enquiries

In the week ending Sunday, May 24, there were 1,493 dealer connections made through the PriceMyCar platform.

New car buying interest is now back in full swing, with queries coming through thick and fast. In the most-recent period, dealer enquiries were up 16.1% week-on-week.

We’re not the only ones taking notice of this turnaround, with The Australian reporting a rapid rise in Google searches for new and used cars in recent weeks. One of the reasons cited concerns an expectation that car travel will increase in the post-COVID world.

New car interest by brand

There were modest increases in enquiries for most brands last week, however, there were two brands that attracted the most attention. Mazda and Kia recorded remarkable growth, cementing their strong performance the week prior.

Beyond that, prominent names like Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, Volkswagen and Subaru remained favourites among prospective new car buyers.

Meanwhile, BMW and Mercedes-Benz continue to see strong interest among our members. Both brands are drawing more enquiries than Nissan, yet also closing in on a long-time favourite in Honda.
