Weekly Dealer Car Enquiries – Sunday June 7

In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.

As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.

Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.

Total new car enquiries

In the week ending Sunday, June 7, PriceMyCar recorded 1,615 dealer connections. It marks a week-on-week increase of 19.1%, not to mention, one of the highest numbers we’ve seen since we started offering our service.

We’ve now seen new car buying interest well and truly stabilise above pre-COVID levels, which is a promising sign for the industry. It could even give way to the prospect of the first (year-on-year) monthly increase in new car sales in more than two years.

A big part of renewed interest aligns with the fact that June is typically one of the busiest months for new car buying interest, ahead of the end of financial year. This year, with instant asset write-offs proving to be a lucrative proposition for many, it’s no surprise to see the enquiries coming through thick and fast.

New car interest by brand

Mazda again continues to be one of the most-looked into brands, with a significant increase in interest last week for the Japanese brand.

Ford and Toyota were also some of the biggest contributors towards the overall week-on-week rise in new car enquiries, while BMW proved a positive surprise as well, with interest in the brand up nearly 50% from the week prior.

The leading brands have largely remained the same for several weeks now, with interest in Volkswagen easing slightly last week.
