Weekly Dealer Car Enquiries – Sunday August 30

In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.

As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.

Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.

Total new car enquiries

In the week ending Sunday, August 30, we had 957 individuals connect with dealers through the PriceMyCar platform. This represented an increase of 6.1% compared with the week prior, or a total of 55 additional dealer connections.

Although a modest week-on-week improvement, we’re still seeing subdued activity in the new car industry relative earlier this year, the EOFY period, and also the corresponding period last year. After a backlog of orders for certain vehicles, dealers have been fulfilling orders in the wake of new stock coming to hand.

New car interest by brand

Ford, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi were among the brands on the move last week, each recording a significantly higher level of interest than the week prior.

In the case of Ford, the brand jumped into second position as far as new car buying interest from the PriceMyCar community. There were a total of 90 queries for the brand, up 45% versus the prior seven-day period. The biggest move, however, was saved for Volkswagen, with dealer connections leaping from 46 to 74, growth of 61%.

Mazda and Kia both saw a decrease in interest for their respective vehicles, with member queries down 23.4% and 20.7% respectively. Nonetheless, both brands are still among the most-popular brands on the market, even after the latter was dislodged by Ford on our list.
