Weekly Dealer Car Enquiries – Sunday August 23

In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.

As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.

Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.

Total new car enquiries

In the week ending Sunday, August 23, there were a total of 902 new car queries through the PriceMyCar platform. The result was more or less in line with the week prior, with a difference of just 10 enquiries across the two weeks, or 1.1% fewer dealer connections.

For the time being, until car showrooms in Melbourne are open for business once again, we’d expect there to be some soft trading across the broader market, even with car sales still accessible online. However, the uptick in activity across other geographic regions bodes well.

New car interest by brand

Interest in Toyota vehicles picked up last week, with the brand climbing back into third position on our list of brands with the most enquiries for the week. The move came courtesy of a near 40% week-on-week increase in the number of dealer connections.

Ford, Hyundai and Mitsubishi all had a positive week, with buying interest returning to each of the brands. Audi and BMW were also trending, seeing additional queries, while Tesla also made a rare appearance courtesy of the one introduction.

After a strong showing the week prior, Mazda and Kia recorded fewer dealer connections, however, they both remain clear frontrunners among all brands for new car interest.
