In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.
As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.
Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.
Total new car enquiries
In the week ending Sunday, January 17, there were 1,891 dealer connections that took place via PriceMyCar. Although sharply down on the result of nearly 2,300 the week prior, this is more likely to be a case of weekly volatility. In any case, the result is still part of a general uptrend that has taken hold since late last year when Melbourne emerged from its extended lockdown.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that the week that has just wrapped up saw many individuals return from holidays back to work. With that, there is bound to be some drop off as far as the number of drivers with time at hand to research new cars and then arrange for inspections and test drives as well.
New car interest by brand
Honda was one of last week’s best performers insofar as, the brand did not see any real drop off in the number of enquiries like most other car brands. By virtue of the steady level of interest, the brand finished fifth last week.
Among the low volume brands, we witnessed an increase in the number of our members looking into the likes of LDV and RAM, suggesting that there is an inclination to look at ute alternatives to established stalwarts like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.
Suzuki also had a positive week, which alongside Skoda and Audi, are seeing some of the highest levels of interest via our platform than at any other time.
