Weekly Dealer Car Enquiries: January 10, 2021

In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.

As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.

Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.

Total new car enquiries

In the week ending Sunday, January 10, nearly 2,300 new car enquiries came through the PriceMyCar website, marking a big start for the new year. The week-on-week increase in dealer connections rose 38.1%, with the total of 2,270 enquiries among the best results we’ve ever observed in a single week.

The overhang of the latest round of border closures and lockdowns have seemingly not deterred our members from undertaking new car research. This is a great positive considering that as of January 1st, there were changes to the employment subsidies the government introduced at the height of the pandemic crisis last year.

New car interest by brand

Interest in Kia vehicles leapt to levels that we have not seen here at PriceMyCar, further underpinning the brand’s resilience in the Australian new car market. The number of inbound queries relating to the brand grew by 96 last week, totalling 285.

Ford maintained its place in second by way of an additional 54 new car enquiries throughout the week, while Mitsubishi leapfrogged Mazda into third position after seeing a strong volume of dealer connections.

Among luxury makers, Mercedes-Benz had a robust showing last week, with the number of queries related to the brand nearly doubling last week, while Volkswagen also fared well.
