In this series, which we hope to bring to you on a regular basis, we’ll be detailing some of the key numbers and trends that we’re seeing in terms of dealer connections made through our site.
As this data is considered somewhat representative of broader industry activity, and serves as one of the more insightful leading indicators for potential car sales, we hope it will fulfil a few purposes for our broad audience. First, to document not just how we’re performing as business, but how dealers and the wider market stand to perform, so you don’t have to wait til that next set of official sales data.
Without further ado, here’s what happened over the last week.
Total new car enquiries
In the week ending Sunday, February 7, a new record was set as the volume of new car queries soared through our previously highest benchmark. In total, there were 2,754 new car enquiries, which itself was 17.8% higher than the week prior.
It also coincides with news last week that January was the third month of positive sales growth in the new car industry, so the rebound is well and truly unfolding before us.
The end to Perth’s snap lockdown may have helped the cause on a national scale, although it is the east coast where things continue to churn along and drive overall momentum.
New car interest by brand
Having flirted with the 300-mark for a couple weeks in a row, the interest in Kia vehicles surged through that threshold last week as the number of queries relating to the brand soared 26.7% to hit an all-time high of 356.
Ford, Mazda and Mitsubishi also recorded significant interest, each approaching that same threshold that Kia passed, and in the process, underpinning the broader strength of results across the PriceMyCar website last week.
Rising popularity elsewhere across the brand portfolio was much more modest than the frontrunners, and in fact, only two prominent brands, Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz, were among those to see a decline in interest over the week.
